This paper presents a newly created mathematical model of thermophilic anaerobic digestion of wheat straw carried out in a 2 dm3 bioreactor for methane production. Two batch processes, with 30 mL/dm3 and 35 mL/dm3 organic load, are carried out—one set for parameter identification and one set for model verification. The identification of model parameter values is based on dynamical experiments. It is fulfilled using two different techniques: deterministic sequential quadratic programming algorith
This study investigated the mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic fermentation of rape straw with biochar addition. The effects of biochar on the biogas yield, degradation of lignocellulose, bacterial community, and crystallinity were explored. The results showed that the biogas yield and methane content increased as the biochar concentration was increased. The biochar concentration of 5.0% resulted in a high biogas yield in mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic digestion at 142.2 mL/g and 193.5
The effect of different inoculum-to-substrate ratios (ISRs) and feed mix (FM) ratios on the kinetics of methane production and yields during anaerobic digestion of spoiled silage mixture (SM) alone or co-digestion with cow manure (CM) was investigated in batch experiments at 37 °C. The silage mixture was prepared from spoiled silages of maize, lucerne and barley in equal proportions of 33% by wet weight. The effect of ISRs of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 showed that methane yields increased with an increased
Abstract
This review identified prospective cohort studies in the general population, which showed incidence (23 papers) and risk factors (37 papers) for fibromyalgia and chronic widespread pain. Median incidence of physician diagnosed fibromyalgia in the general population was 4.3 per 1000 person-years (range = 0.33-18.8) but 14.0 (1.2-32.7) if medical illness was present. Median incidence of chronic widespread pain was 12.5 per 1000 person-years (7.2-81.6) but 67 per 1000 person year
This integrative literature review aims to investigate the impacts of cannabidiol (CBD) on the quality of life of patients with refractory epilepsy and chronic pain, analyzing its effectiveness as an adjunctive or first-line therapy. The research is justified by the need to expand knowledge about the therapeutic potential of CBD, especially its ability to provide symptomatic relief and improve the quality of life of individuals with complex conditions such as refractory epilepsy and chronic pain
Abstract
Although we know chronic pain (CP) affects approximately 30% of people in developed countries, data from Latin America are scarce. Moreover, prevalence of specific CP conditions, such as chronic noncancer pain (CNCP), fibromyalgia (FM), and neuropathic pain (NP), is unknown. To estimate them in Chile, we prospectively enrolled 1945 participants (61.4% women and 38.6% men), aged 38 to 74 years, from an agricultural town who answered a Pain Questionnaire, the Fibromyalgia Survey
Chronic pain is a common problem in rheumatology. A distinction is made between nociceptive pain and nociplastic pain. Nociceptive pain is, for example, mechanistically explained by persistent inflammation. Neuropathic pain is caused by nerve damage of various possible causes. In contrast, nociplastic pain is not due to tissue damage or a lesion in the somatosensory nervous system—at least not with the currently available techniques. Nociplastic pain is based on an altered perception of pain thr
Fibromyalgia is a chronic rheumatic disease that presents widespread pain throughout the body, with a predominance in women aged 40-50 years, representing 4.2% of this population. In Brazil, the statistic is 5%. Objective: to carry out an approach regarding pathophysiology, symptoms and diagnosis, in addition to analyzing how the role of physiotherapy can contribute to the treatment and relief of chronic pain in women with the disease. Methodology: this is a work based on a descriptive, qualitat
Introduction: The growing aging population increases the prevalence of falls among the elderly, an event with significant impacts on the functionality and quality of life of the elderly and their families, in addition to increasing public expenditures. Physical therapy emerges as a crucial intervention in this process, minimizing risks and optimizing the independence of the elderly. Objective: To consider the role of physical therapists in the prevention and functional rehabilitation of falls in
There have been several indications that pain and reward are partly mediated by similar neural pathways in the central nervous system, and that these common pathways are related to both the dopamine (DA) and the opioid systems. Several studies have demonstrated the analgesic effects of rewarding stimuli or activities on positive affective states. On the other hand, chronic pain was shown to impair several aspects of reward processing by possibly altering pain-reward interactions. However, the pr
