Adult Outcomes of Pediatric-onset CHD2 and SYNGAP1-associated Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies (2022)

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) are rare, infantile-onset conditions of genetic etiology, particularly CHD2 and SYNGAP1 variants. While pediatric phenotypes are well described, there is a lack of understanding regarding adult outcomes, which may lead to misdiagnoses and barriers to treatment. This thesis aimed to characterize the clinical features, communication skills and adaptive behavioural abilities of adult patients (18 years and older). We determined that features such

Cannabis policies are continuously evolving, over half of U.S. youth now live in a state with a form of legalized cannabis. Monitoring risk and protective factors is critical to ensure evidence-based youth prevention in this post cannabis-prohibition era. Massachusetts has enacted and implemented three forms of legalization: (1) Decriminalization (2008), (2) medical cannabis (2012), and (3) adult-use cannabis (2016). This study used state Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) data of participants in

Psychosis After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and the Role of an Integrated Brain Medicine Clinic (2025)

Psychosis after mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be rare, complex, and functionally impairing, often requiring inputs from various specialties. This usually entails separate visits and long wait times. We present the case of an elderly patient with schizophrenia-like psychosis after a mild TBI. Three years after the TBI, the treating physiatrist requested diagnostic clarifications and treatment recommendations from a brain medicine clinic (BMC), a novel integrated virtual clinic composed of

Cannabis Use and Psychosis – Modern Views on the Problem. Narrative Synthesis (2021)

Cannabis continues to be the most widely used drug worldwide. Recently, there has been two trends in the field: a liberalization of cannabis-related legislation in a number of countries, as well as an increase in the content of the psychoactive component in cannabis plant – tetrahydrocannabinol. The review covers a topic that has been little studied in Russian addiction science – cannabis use and associated psychotic disorders. Filipino American Parental Beliefs and Perceptions about Managing Care for Children and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (2020)

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that affects 1 in 54 children in the United States. This developmental disability impacts an individual’s behavior, communication patterns, and social interactions. ASD strikes 17.9 per 1,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander children in the United States. A dearth of knowledge exists about ASD within the Filipino American community. Shame and stigma related to ASD negatively affect how Filipino Americans perceive the developmental d

Endocannabinoids disinhibit the ventral tegmental nucleus of Gudden to dorsal premammillary nucleus pathway to enhance escape behavior following learned threat experience (2025)

Innate escape behaviors, while not requiring prior learning, are shaped by an animal's learned experiences, such as previous exposure. Here, we found that learned threat experience in mice enhances flight behaviors, which is linked to increased activation of cholecystokinin-expressing neurons in the dorsal premammillary nucleus (PMdCCK neurons), a population that controls circa-strike escape responses. This heightened activity coincides with reduced inhibition from parvalbumin-express

A Preliminary Study Looking at the Use of Mindful Compassion and Cannabis Suppositories for Anodyspareunia among Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) (2024)

Cannabis Legalization and Driving: Exploring Young Ontarians’ Knowledge, Perceptions and Attitudes (2019)

The legalization of recreational cannabis may increase driving under the influence of cannabis (DUIC) among youth, a behavior proven to increase the risk of collisions. We conducted a mixed methods study including an online survey (N=426; 53% female) and two focus groups (N=12) exploring young drivers’ knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes towards cannabis use and DUIC. 83.6% (356) of survey’s participants had used cannabis, 69% (296) in the past year. Among past-year users, 47.9% (142) have pre
